Applicant Qualifications

  • Must maintain a valid CA BSIS Guard Card
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Must adhere to grooming standards
  • Adhere to Tattoo and piercing policy
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business policies, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals including detailed incident reports writing.
  • Good Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Computer knowledge
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations without supervision
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions  in written, oral, diagram and schedule formate.
  • The ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work weekends and overnights. To include extended working hours beyond scheduled off times. 
  • Available to work overtime as needed
  • Agreement to adhere to a Drug, Alcohol, prescription medicine- ZERO Tolerance
  • Agreement to no smoking, vaporizer, tobacco use while in uniform.

Essential Functions

Include but are not limited to the following

Employees of Parabellum wear uniforms- to include wearing shoulder patches and a badge. Staff carries defensive weapons such as firearms and chemical agents. As security guards, the following duties are required of all personal while on duty.


  • Patrols assigned areas by car, foot, motorcycle, or bicycle; performs crime suppression and prevention activities; answers special calls; conducts initial and follow-up investigations; interviews victims, complaints including disturbances, health code and local ordnance violations; performs surveillance activities; conducts drug and alcohol testing; investigates suspicious circumstances.
  • Enforces traffic laws; conducts complete accident investigations; controls and directs traffic when necessary; performs crowd control, special event or riot duties; assists on crime prevention activities and the control of juvenile delinquency; counsels and educates the community; administers first aid in cases of emergency, is responsible for the care and custody of detained persons.
  • Trains and assists less experienced personnel as assigned; may serve as a Field Training Officer or in a variety of special program areas including school liaison, K-9 programs, motorcycle traffic patrol, or other specialized areas of assignment.
  • Collects, preserves and maintains evidence and property.
  • Obtains and processes evidence; takes written statements; prepares required reports and maintains investigative records; serves documents; testifies effectively in court proceedings; provides information and referrals; and operates with law enforcement agencies as warranted.
  • Responds to questions, concerns and requests for service from the general public; provides information as appropriate and resolves complaints.
  • Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, staff and the public.

Description of Physical Demands

STANDING

To talk to suspects; question witnesses at a scene; give citation; to communicate with staff; obtain internal and external information; to take firearms tests; conducting training sessions.


SITTING

To drive the patrol car; attend/conduct meetings; perform other miscellaneous office tasks; to work at desk; appear in court; to do surveillance work.


WALKING/RUNNING

Varying distances to observe suspects; to move to safety; frequently on concrete; occasionally on all types of surfaces and terrain, including rough terrain, rock or uneven ground, or areas presenting obstacles such as alleys with garbage or debris.


LIFTING/CARRYING

Frequently: light objects including firearms and recovered property; occasionally: 50-100 lbs. or over 100 lbs. to move victims at the scene of an accident or to assist elderly or disabled persons who have fallen in their homes or elsewhere. 50-100 lbs. for recovered property; to transport supplies/materials to various programs.


PUSHING/PULLING

To move vehicles off the road; pull victims from accident scene; push open doors or windows; move obstacles.


REACHING

Varying distances to open or crawl through windows; at times to reach into vehicles to assist accident victims.


HANDLING / FINE DEXTERITY

To restrain suspects; use firearms, files, radio, or equipment; recover property; change tires; to do paperwork; make phone calls; to gather, perform tests on and examine evidence; to operate computer, copier and other equipment; possibly to do composite sketches.


CROUCHING/ BENDING/ KNEELING/CRAWLING/ TWISTING

The nature of security work is such that all types of body positions are assumed to varying degrees; depending on the shift worked and the nature of the calls, the officer may be required to assume positions of kneeling, crouching, crawling, or bending, or twisting in order to:

-Movement in a narrow, small or cramped space

-Handcuff or restrain a suspect who is attempting to flee, particularly a suspect who has to be brought to the ground and searched for weapons.

-Maneuver around, through, or under various kinds of obstacles.

-Assist an elderly or disabled person onto a bed or chair from the floor.

-Assist at the scene of an accident

-Extract an accident victim from a vehicle

-Move vehicles or assist stranded motorists

-Collect evidence

-Access materials stored in low file cabinets or shelves

-Surveillance work

-Get to children’s eye level when working with them on youth service programs.


CLIMBING/BALANCING

To go up on platform; climb stairs in apartment complexes or other buildings; climb ladders to apprehend a suspect or assist in rescue; jump or climb over fences or other obstacles.


VISION

To observe suspects; drive patrol car. Visual discrimination required to distinguish and identify suspect’s clothing, features, license plates, etc.; read documents; write; conduct investigations; to examine evidence.


HEARING/TALKING

To communicate effectively with other officers, law enforcement/human service agencies, suspects, children, young adults, and the general public.


LYING ON GROUND

To take target practice and firearms test; as part of surveillance work; checking out the clouds to monitor weather conditions.


FOOT CONTROL

To drive patrol car, pedal a bicycle, and walk for an extended period of time.
